- The past 12 months has been an emotional roller-coaster for me. Our CARE Parent Support Program is recognized and valued within this shire and beyond. I want to extend a big thank you to the many arms offering to carry us as we grow. In all my life and places I’ve lived, I have not yet, felt as nurtured as I do right now, right here, being part of the Byron community.
I am so fortunate to be an employee of Byron Shire Council. The flexible, family friendly work hours have served me and our community well. Our parenting group facilitators, Caroline, Simon, Justina and Rachel have also adjusted by facilitating night groups which are very popular and meet the needs of working parents.
Our human resources (group facilitators) are of a high standard. We are open to work hand in hand with other family support services in offering parent education programs to targeted groups e.g. parents of teenagers and parents of children with special needs, to name a few.
The P5 parenting groups have made the CARE program what it is today. The majority of participants are referred by parents who have already benefited from taking part in past groups. Many thanks to Kate Birch, the New Zealand based psychologist who designed P5 to be facilitated for parents by parents with the support of professionals. Through disseminating many P5 groups, which address the parent-child relationship from toddler-hood onwards, and gaining more knowledge and understanding of the importance of heart to heart connection with our babies from conception, we have recognized the need to introduce a more holistic parenting program.

Heart to Heart Parenting
Robin Grille, author of Parenting for a Peaceful World and Heart to Heart Parenting will provide four days of training for a dozen chosen key community workers including the facilitators within CARE. We will be trained in the process of Heart to Heart Parenting, our introduced, pilot parent education program. (note name change from Connecting Parents to Heart to Heart Parenting) We wish to extend a big thank-you to Catherine Carter of Rainforest Resort for donating the Cabana Room and Nura (66842657) for satisfying our need to eat during this training.
This term CARE will be offering only 2 x 7-week P5 parenting groups. In the final term of 2008 we will offer both Part I & Part II of Heart to Heart Parenting. This leaves more time for me to carry out home visits, one-to-one support for parents, referrals and mediation for family members during this coming term. I’m only a phone call away! All services provided by CARE Parent Support are free and funded by FaHCSIA.

What is Heart to Heart Parenting?
A two-part course for parents, totalling twelve sessions, helping them to:
- build more loving parenting communities,
- deepen their capacity for healthy attachment and for being guides and inspirers of their children,
- make the parenting journey more joyous
